Bioremediation Case Study in Wyoming

(Grand Rapids, MI) – Tragically, a Grand Rapids man died alone in his bedroom and his death went undiscovered for several days. When relatives called ServiceMaster BioClean, they were concerned that the cleanup was too complex to handle alone. Decomposition is not only unpleasant, but the lingering odor and physical damage it causes can have a long term effect on the property.

When technicians entered the residence, the first thing they noticed was the smell. They also noted biological fluid pooling was found on the carpet outside of the bedroom and on the hardwood flooring directly inside the room. After disposing of the carpet, the floor was tested for bacteria. In some cases a hard floor can be cleaned, but because the death had gone unremediated for so long, fluids seeped through the porous surface and into the subfloor.

Using a saw, hammer and pry bar, the flooring was removed and discarded as medical waste. Finally the technicians cleaned and disinfected both areas, and used a HEPA air scrubber to remove offensive odors. The end result helped ready the home for remodeling and eventual sale
